Smart Balbriggan Awarded Runner-up at .IE Digital Town Award

Smart Balbriggan have been awarded runner-up at the .IE Digital Town Awards 2021 in the Urban Town category.

Smart Balbriggan is a community focused programme that uses technology solutions to
tackle local challenges. The programme uses digital technologies and innovation to achieve
three key strategic priorities, Community Building, Job Creation & Economic Growth and
Improved Services & Public Realm.

The .IE Digital Town Awards were created in order to address digital enhancement and
adoption in Ireland. They promote awareness, knowledge, use and understanding of digital
technology in Ireland by its citizens, businesses and communities. They also hope to
highlight the benefits and possibilities of digital technology for other local towns around the country.

Smart Balbriggan was awarded the prize because of the District’s digital vision and the 10 digital
projects started in the town since its launch. These projects include such things as Free
Public WIFI, Smart Benches and a Connected Life-Ring Pilot in partnership with Smart
Docklands. More information on these projects and Smart Balbriggan’s other projects can
be found here.

With 14 different awards on offer in a variety of different categories, they aim to help
celebrate the digital achievements of towns of various sizes across Ireland. The Digital Town
Awards are a great opportunity for towns to raise their profile and also further develop
digitally. Smart Balbriggan won a €5,000 share of the total €100,000 prize fund.

The awards give an opportunity to the nominated towns to help retain existing, and attract
new, workers and residents. While also helping to potentially attract new investment from
national and international companies.

Smart Balbriggan was shortlisted in the Urban Town category alongside other Dublin
towns, Blackrock and Dun Laoghaire. We would like to send our congratulations to Dun Laoghaire who were picked as the winner of the Category.
