Smart Mobility Hub SBIR Challenge: Sustainable Mobility Innovation

In an effort to reduce staff reliance on private cars, Dublin City Council, launched “The Smart Mobility Hub Challenge”, in partnership with Enterprise Ireland under the Small Business Innovation Research Programme.

Project Activities

This pre-commercial procurement challenge, sought low-cost, innovative solutions that would test  mobility options for staff by developing a shared “mobility hub”. Along with Dublin City Council’s Wood Quay Civic Offices, both Fingal County Council offices and Dun Laoghaire County Council offices were  used as test beds for Phase 1.

The Smart Mobility Hubs allow council staff to commute to work by public transport, but, using bespoke booking apps, access e-cars, e-bikes and push-bikes for work travel throughout the day. To date, in Dublin City Council along, 120 staff are trained and registered to use the service.

Impact

From excessive congestion to poor air quality, reliance on private cars in urban centres can have a host of negative impacts on how we experience our cities. The Smart Mobility Hub pilot intends to help alleviate these problems by providing innovative solutions for council staff work-related travel.
