Dublin Fire Brigade, in collaboration with Esri Ireland, is introducing a new cutting-edge location-based system that is designed to enhance emergency response, and will improve public safety across the city. Serving nearly 1.5 million people on a daily basis, Dublin Fire Brigade plays a vital role in protecting lives and property in the county.
The system is powered by Esri’s ArcGIS technology, the leading platform for geographic information systems (GIS). By integrating multiple data sources, such as operational data, fire station locations, historic incident records, and third-party datasets such as census and population health information, Dublin Fire Brigade can obtain a more comprehensive view of fire risks throughout Dublin.
One of the capabilities of this system is its ability to map buildings with potential fire safety issues. These include properties that are lacking appropriate emergency exits or those that may be over-occupied. With this data, the Fire Brigade can carry out targeted fire prevention initiatives that focus on communities more at risk and areas where fire clusters have been identified. This proactive method aims to reduce incidents before they occur, saving lives and minimizing damage.

The rollout of technology is part of Dublin Fire Brigade’s newly established Organisational Intelligence Unit, which leverages location-based insights to strengthen risk management and strategic planning. Beyond prevention, the technology will also be used to identify potential new fire station locations, ensuring optimal coverage and faster response times for emergencies.
Should this system be put in place across departments, it would allow better data-driven decision making and long term planning when it comes to public safety. By applying the power of GIS, this collaboration marks a significant step towards creating a safer, more resilient Dublin, where technology and emergency services work hand in hand to protect communities.
