#HackAccessDublin, 25th – 27th November

Over the weekend of 25-27th November, in Google, a hackathon called #HackAccessDublin will look for innovative solutions to Dublin’s access challenges.

The focus of the hackathon is on the real causes of disability, which is the environment, not individual differences in ability.  See the about video here.  Its purpose is to leverage technology to support our society become inclusive to people of all abilities.

The intention is that each year the hackathon will focus on a specific area. This year the challenges relate to transport. They will be tackled by mechanical engineers, designers, technologists in maker sessions which will culminate in a final pitch to a panel of judges composed of Jamie Cudden, SMART Dublin program manager, Darren Ryan, CEO of Social Entrepreneurs Ireland, Lizbeth Goodman,     Professor of Inclusive Design for Education and Chair of Creative Technology and Innovation in the College of Engineering & Architecture at UCD and Liz McCarthy, Events & Partnership Manager at Dogpatch Labs.

The Sunday pitch will be open to the general public. It is organizer, Janice Valentine’s goal to expose the general public to innovative and startup approaches to solving problems in Ireland, so that individuals see themselves as solution enablers not just victims of societal challenges like disability.
