Dublin City Council in partnership with Enterprise Ireland’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) co-fund the Last Mile Delivery Challenge. In the frame of this initiative Dublin City Council is pleased to announce the launch of pilot trials of Parkunload’s Smart Loading Zones solution at loading bays on Patrick St., Clanbrassil St. and Hatch St Lower.

The changing nature of urban economies and supply chain management, and the impact of online retail has had an impact on the type and volume of goods deliveries in cities. This in turn has had an impact on the wider urban environment in terms of air quality, traffic management and infrastructure. Cities across the world face real challenges in how they manage goods deliveries balancing the needs of business while at the same time enhancing the quality of the environment.

During the coming months companies delivering goods at these locations will have the opportunity to try PARKUNLOAD’s app and smart parking buttons as an easy and convenient way of checking in – and out – of spaces dedicated specifically to facilitating kerbside delivery.

Colm Ennis, Dublin City Council SBIR Project Manager comments: “this solution has a lot of potential because it enables cities to manage both digital parking permit maximum parking time in the smart zones depending on several criteria, such as: vehicle emissions, vehicle type and tonnage and driver’s profile, accurate location and time of the day”.

Parkunload’s CEO Carles Sentís adds: “We are delighted to be taking forward this co-innovation with the city authority of Dublin and in collaboration with Smart Dublin. This project has helped us to develop and showcase a smart parking button interface. The drivers of Dublin’s transport companies are among the first in the world to trial this feature on public roads; we hope they will appreciate the convenience and the improved rotation of this solution”.
