Smart Dublin in partnership with Enterprise Ireland announced phase 2 of their Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) programme. Eight companies were awarded further contracts worth over €300k to pilot and test innovative smart technologies across Dublin which are addressing challenges such as illegal dumping, flooding and wayfinding.

The companies successfully awarded phase 2 funding are: Analytics Engines, Carra Group, Danalto, Evercam, mSemicon, Route4U, Skytango and SparroWatch.

Speaking at the launch Marguerite Bourke, Manager SBIR Ireland (Enterprise Ireland) said:  “We are delighted with the level of innovation and collaboration being demonstrated through SBIR in partnership with Smart Dublin. Already, we are seeing commercial successes, new spin-outs and jobs created out of the first phase. In Phase 2, the SMEs will test their ideas and build prototypes that Smart Dublin will be able to deploy immediately. The wider applicability potential for these new products, both in Ireland and internationally, is a very exciting prospect.”

The challenges launched May 2017 generated almost 200 expressions of interest and 40 proposals. Of those, 16 were awarded phase 1 funding of circa €12,500 alongside supports from Smart Dublin (the 4 Dublin Local Authorities) to research and demonstrate the viability of their solution.

Today’s event highlights the eight successful companies, who have each been awarded phase 2 contracts worth over €300k to prototype the solutions in the Dublin region.

At the event it was also announced the launch of 5 new innovation competitions on the 26th of April.
